To celebrate winter, wanderlust and weekends we gathered a group of local South African bloggers for Blogathon Cape Town in partnership with Cape Town Tourism and Cheapflights to support their #HelloWeekend winter campaign.
The focus of the campaign was Things to do in Cape Town in 48 Hours and 10 bloggers from foodies to adventurers, participated in a #Blogathon.
We created our Blogathon Cape Town concept to highlight some of the most iconic sights, restaurants and hotels in Cape Town from 10 different travel styles, perspectives, interests and budgets in the winter season.
The 10 Blog Posts about “Things to do in Cape Town” reached near and far with multiple shares on Facebook and more than 200 retweets creating over one million impressions on Twitter alone in the first few hours plus the 10 blog posts will continue to be shared via Cape Town Tourism, CheapFlight and Travel24 over the coming weeks and months.

Meet The 10 Bloggers
Meruschka from Mzansigirl shared her weekend getaway ideas with top tips to keep your 48 hours budget-friendly.
She explored “the culture, nightlight and pulse of the inner city with a morning visit to Table Mountain” as well as the city’s “natural beauty and it’s most famous export – wine.”
Iga from Eager Journeys decided to keep her wallet tucked away in her purse with her itinerary of free things to do in Cape Town.
Iga said that “a weekend getaway to Cape Town doesn’t need to be expensive” and she explored “free things to do in the city of clouds”.
Moving Sushi’s Linda focused on enjoying her 48 hours in Cape Town on land and in sea with a little bit of “surf and turf”.
With a strong passion for ocean conservation, she learned a new skill, surfing, and discovered the “wonderful therapeutic benefits of communing with the ocean”.
Anje from Going Somewhere Slowly allowed the city to guide her into an affordable break while still indulging in some Capetonian delights.
She went slow and said that “you can’t rush through the Mother City. She is like fine wine. You need to take your time”.
Cape Town Diva, Allison, traversed down the streets of her own neighbourhood and found some great activities to do in the Mother City.
Allison, a Cape Town and Oranjezicht local, shared that one should “maximise your minutes – see the sights, eat all the food, drink all the wine and drench your eyes with views.”
Di, the Roaming Giraffe, gave some tips for Cape Town’s weather and explored the city from all angles; on foot, in the air and on the sea.
She got a bird’s eye view and said that “nothing beats flying in a helicopter, and doing it over a city as spectacular as Cape Town is mind-blowing”.
The Incidental Tourist, Dawn, fell in love with the weekend and Cape Town (again) and created an itinerary that would encourage any non-Capetonian to become a Capetonian.
She reminded all that “whether you’re a first time or return visitor, don’t be too cool to take to the most popular attractions in the city, they are called iconic for very good reason”.
Benike Palfi from I Love Foodies shared five Cape Town food trends to try in winter with a guide to explore the city in terms of culinary offerings.
Benike made everyone hungry with some “dishes and food styles that are typically Cape Town or seen as the stuff Cape Town can’t seem to live without.”
Come rain or come shine, Rachel,The Tipsy Gypsy, she is prepared and created a guide to explore the best of Cape Town during the sunny and rainy days.
For the cold winter days she suggested a visit to “Perseverance Tavern in Buitenkant Street for fine ale and good food” because “there is a fireplace to keep you warm!”
Carla Lewis-Balden from Die Reismier entertained the Afrikaans readers with her insider tips on how to explore the arty side of Cape Town and how to get the best winter deals.
She recommended a visit to Hope on Hopkins, a gin distillery in the middle of the city. because “it is the new craft beer with Fynbos- and Buchu infused gin”.
